"Imaginary" is a catch-all term referring to anything, or anyone, created by another cosmi's mind. It's also a nebulous term, as it's difficult to tell who creates who in the QUILT, or if anyone is really "real." Imaginaries can create Imaginaries can create Imaginaries...it is imaginary turtles all the way down. Or up?

Well, whatever the case may be, the QUILT is full of Imaginaries, because it is very easy to imagine things, as I'm sure you can imagine. For example, an Imaginary can be:

• an imaginary friend
• a cartoon character
• an OC
• a persona
• a headmate
• an intrusive thought
• trauma
• you?

And so on.

⏪︎ 『 life as an imaginary 』 ⏩︎

Imaginaries naturally come in all shapes and sizes, and it wouldn't be right to try and generalize all of them. But more often than not, they begin life inside another cosmi's psychosphere. So Imaginaries will commonly meet their creators in dreams. But some Imaginaries are a tricky sort, and they'll find ways out of your psychosphere and enter the real world.

Sometimes this happens willingly, like with, say, tulpamancers, or a kid hoping that a dog chews up their homework. But more commonly this happens naturally: as you feed more and more into an Imaginary, they grow stronger and stronger until they become buff enough to rip a hole in your brain they become powerful enough to, well, exist! In a real sense of the word.

Once an Imaginary enters reality...well, it really depends. Some Imaginaries stick out like sore thumbs, and they refuse to abide by their universe's physical laws. So, they get labelled as "anomalies" or "illogics" or what have you, as is the case in places like Terrania. Others "pass" as "real" cosmi, with some even having the same bits and bobs inside their bodies, but sometimes even they get outed as Imaginaries and treated as such.
